Model School Policies

In public schools across New York State, transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) children as young as five face harassment, threats, and physical violence for trying to access their right to an education. In an effort to address this dangerous reality, NYS passed the Dignity for All Students Act (also known as DASA). Not all schools fully understand how to support and protect their TGNC students.

The Empire Justice Center, the Empire State Pride Agenda, and the NYCLU (with support from LGBTQ advocacy groups and centers across the state) developed a model school policy to assist schools in implementing DASA.

You can learn more about the creation of the policy here.
